Outrageous Lies
Apr 16, 04:18 PM | Harry Reid
Immigration is one of our most pressing national security issues and the fact is George Bush and his rubberstamping Republican allies in Congress have failed to deal with it responsibly. Instead, they turn reality upside down and today will start running ads against me on Spanish language radio stations in Nevada claiming “Reid’s Democrat allies voted to treat millions of hardworking immigrants as felons.”
That is a lie. Democrats fought Bill Frist and House Republican efforts to bow to the extreme rightwing element of their party and treat twelve million hardworking immigrants like felons. In one week Democrats voted twice to support a bill that reinforces border security and brings millions of undocumented workers out of the shadows.
I will fight back against this vicious smear in Nevada, but it will only stop if we show Republicans there is a price to pay for their lies. I’m not going to ask you to contribute to me, but to Democrats running for Senate around the country. We have a real shot at taking back the majority in November and that would be the best revenge.
You can make a contribution to Senate candidates by clicking here.
The fact is that President Bush has as much credibility on immigration as he does on Iraq. If President Bush were actually committed to comprehensive immigration reform, he would have stopped his own party from filibustering it twice last week.
If Republicans are serious about moving forward, then they should join me in calling on Senator Frist to bring immigration reform back to the Senate floor as soon as possible. Hopefully by then, President Bush and his Majority Leader will have found the backbone to stop the extreme elements of the Republican Party.
That seems unlikely since Bush Republicans in Washington are no longer interested in making policy that helps the American people. They know their extreme right wing policies have been a failure in Iraq and a failure here at home. So instead of an honest debate, they lie, smear and attempt to divide our nation. As long as I’m around that won’t work.
I know how to deal with people who tell lies about me. In the 1970’s, when I was Nevada Gaming Commissioner, some mobsters spread stories about me. They ended up in jail – and Republicans will end up out of office come November.
The Republicans should not pick this fight. I’ve been in more boxing rings then all of them combined. And when you throw a punch at me, you end up on the mat.

- Any chance of Harry Reid running for President in 08?
— Brandon Theis Apr 16, 04:35 PM # - When are both parties going to reform the whole ugly process of quotas and immigration? I saw this whole mess play out in Fla during the various waves of Cubans. Why aren’t you overhauling the entire process and hiring qualified people to do the work. This is something you don’t have to outsource and you can pay people to do and help float the economy and fair immigration policies that work and also hold people accountable to our laws rather than criminalize them when they are in desperate straits.
All I hear is blah, blah, blah! Where’s the meat—the ideas, the solutions to problems that are ever with us because of a lack of creative imagination and backbone! Talk is cheap except when we the people are paying for it and getting no where fast.
— Cassandra Langer Apr 16, 04:41 PM # - Dear Harry
Thank you for what you are doing for the American people by exposing the lies of the Bush administration.
I have just one question: you sent the mobsters to jail. Why just aim for voting the Bush Administration out? They are the biggest mobsters our nations has ever labored under, and deserve the same treatment as any other mobsters.
— cvonrabenau Apr 16, 05:30 PM # - I think the whole immigration debate is a ‘red herring’ designed to keep our minds off of the REAL PROBLEMS that this country is facing – BANKRUPTCY and the increasing difference between the very rich and the poor as the middle class disappears. The deteriorating environment is also a big problem, (but, of course, profitable for the pharmaceutical companies.)
All you are going to do is raise the price of fresh fruits and vegetables, child care, etc. and we the common people are not going to be able to afford anything.
I think that there is no longer any difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. I think voting is a waste of time because we have no real choices
Do you have investments in India and China?
— mad as hell Apr 16, 05:56 PM # - Immigrants may be hardworking but they are ILLEGAL. I could go along with this bogus amnesty program, but only if you make the border BULLETPROOF. If you just pay lip service to enforcement, well soon have 50 million here. All the property tax levys in the world won’t pay for their offsprings education and health care.
— Randy Hiner Apr 16, 06:02 PM # - The ads are being run, Harry, because you have not done “chit” other than obstruct.
You need to find staffers that can at last make you appear competent, unlike the ones writing comments on this board.
— Kee Apr 16, 06:22 PM # - If the corporations were punished in any real way for hiring illegal immigrants, they’d stop doing it. Then fewer people would risk their lives to cross the border illegally and legal immigrants would stand half a chance of getting ahead. So why not nail the right party here? Instead, corporations get what they want – a cheap, largely illegal immigrant pool to super-exploit and push down wages while the rest of us fight over the crumbs. But Democrats are too chicken to stand up to them. Are you Harry? Show us! And while you’re at it, stop plugging Bob Casey Jr. in Pennsylvania. If he’s elected, YOU won’t have to live with his anti-choice, pro-war positions but we in PA will! Chuck Pennacchio is the only real Democrat in the race, a man following the great traditions of Wellstone, Simon and Harkin. You and the rest of the party should have the guts to support him instead of throwing your money at a Democrat who endorsed Alito.
— suzan Apr 16, 06:26 PM # - I am normally a very strong Democratic supporter, but I can not support any Illegal immigration. I want to see the Borders Locked UP, and very strong penalties from any employer who employs an Illegal. It is very unfair to the legal immigrants to have their jobs threatened, not to mention the life long Americans who are being destroyed by allowing illegals to undercut their pay, driving down wages for all Americans. Most importantly it must be ENFORCED that employers face very strong penalties for hiring illegals. We are a nation of laws, we all support Freedom, but we can not be free if we allow some to break the law while we turn our backs. The Democrats will need to show strong enforcement on this issue, or they will blow the chance to take back the congress. So please consider adjusting your position on the Illegal immigration, so we can get to business of reversing the Republican agenda of corruption, so we can end this war, and get back to defending the rights of all legal Americans.
— John T. Doty Apr 16, 08:18 PM # - I posted this over a week ago, and just heard Newt Fucking Gingrich say the same damn thing on Bill Fucking O’Reilly. Does that mean I’m part of the “contract with America”???? Can I be Newt’s running mate??
Bwah, ha, ha, yuk, yuk!!
“Simple problem to fix.
Go to the source and dry up the jobs.
All banks can run an INSTANT SSN check to make sure names match numbers.
First offense for an employer, CEO for hiring illegals….....$25,000.
Second offense for an employer, CEO for hiring illegals….....$50,000 and six months mandatory jail time.
This problem will be non-existant in 1 year.
Nobody has the balls to do this and buck big business.
Growers and farmers can use the Brasero program that is already in place, so your veggies and produce prices won’t be much higher than they are now.
— Poor Daddy Apr 8, 08:44 PM #
Congratulations, Newt…..good idea!
— Poor Daddy Apr 16, 08:27 PM # - This will be short and sweet. All Democrats and Republicans should be required to understand the meaning of some simple words such as illegal. What part of illegal is so hard for politicians to understand? Why do they not listen to the majority?
Illegal aliens are law breakers. Send them home. No amnesty. Close the borders and be done with it.
The line that they are doing jobs no one else will do is pure, to put it very nicely, poppycock. America is going to hell in a hand basket and our elected officials are ignoring this and doing nothing about it. If you elected persons fail to get control quickly you might find yourselves out of office in November. This year, next year, or the big one after, the voters are going to remember who is screwing them.
Election time draws near and I’m not voting for anyone who dosen’t understand the definition of illegal.
— A Matthiessen Apr 16, 08:33 PM # - On every issue /policy, the Democrats have the Republicans on the defensive; except for illegal immigration.
The American people are dead set against being overrun by illegal immigrants. I keep hearing ion the media that polls shows the people don’t want illegals treated as felons. Who are you polling? The illegal immigrants? Everybody I talk to want stricter regulation and laws enforced. And, whatever it cost; take (don’t send) them back where they came from.
In the long run, it would be less costly compared to what they are costing our country. Any politician seen as giving amnesty to illegal immigrants will surely be voted out of office in November regardless of where they stand on any other issue; even Iraq.
— Mary L. Richardson Apr 16, 08:38 PM # - Harry,
If the candidates you support endorse your policies on illegal immigrants, they will not get my vote. Until we gain control of our borders, it is useless to talk about immigration reform. American citizens will not be duped by the phony policies of Kennedy and McCain.
If you wish to help replace the American worker with illegal immigrants and H-1B visa holders, perhaps, you should solicit them for contributions and support. You wont have mine.

— Nate Apr 16, 08:48 PM # - I am a 66 year old grandmother who has been a democrats all my life. However, the way the democrats are supporting illegal immigration and proposing to give them a form of amnesty, I ‘m not about to support you or any other politician courting hispanics. They are wrecking our economy, lowering the wage scale and free loading off our services.
Why are you and other democrats shooting yourselves in the foot? I don’t understand, because I thought the democratic party was for the working middle class as opposed to corporate interests. Now, on the illegal immigration issue, it looks like the far right republican is the only friend we have.
Why are you supporting a form of amnesty for illegals?? Believe me, the American people don’t want it; and they will surely vote anyone supporting it, out of office.
— Mary L. Richardson Apr 16, 08:53 PM # - Saw this elsewhere and thought I’d share it.
Dear President Bush:
I’m about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me.
I’m going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.
I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here.
So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I’m on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won’t make any effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don’t enforce any labor laws or tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.
14. Eventually I want to be able to vote and have all election materials and notices sent to me in English with Spanish as a second language..
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico.
I am sure that Pres. Fox won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely. However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.
— bill_o_carolina Apr 16, 08:58 PM # - ILLEGAL
Harry, look up the word in the dictionary. Not once do you use it in your above diatribe. Instead you lie, lie, lie. We saw the sessions on C-SPAN, we looked up the roll call votes. We saw that you filibustered and obstructed. Quit pandering for votes for the Democrats and do what is right for America. I dare say that the punches you took in the boxing ring are now taking their toll on you as you cannot tell the truth any longer. Please resign.
— joro Apr 16, 09:37 PM # - Once again Mr. Reid, you have obstructed the Senate’s immigration legislation. It is clear you do not support law & order, at least for illegal aliens. Is the Hispanic vote more important to you? What happened to the immigration bill you sponsored in ‘93? It’s the same bill Frist submits and now you want to stop it. Quit pandering to Eastern elitists, quit flip flopping & quit obstructing legislation. That’s not what you got elected to do for us here in this great state of Nevada. Please resign, donate the Abramoff monies, we can’t take 4 more years of your obstructionism & lying.
— lvdrummer Apr 16, 10:34 PM # - All of us, old and new Americans, are marching. Most of their ideas are completely racist. Plus the indentured servitude idea is so 1800’s.
However, why don’t you add our girl, Barabara Ann Radnofsky, who is running against the great rubber stamp, Kay Bailey Hutchinson here in Texas?
— Carolyn Apr 16, 10:39 PM # - Dear Harry,
Thanks for caring so much about what’s right for America.
I like your fighting style. I, too, enjoy getting in the ring and kickboxing.
These guys who masquerade as leaders deserve more than being voted out of office. They should be impeached and put on trial for treason and crimes against humanity.
Stay healthy and fiesty!
PS Let’s not forget electoral reform and integrity. We can’t afford a repeat of 2000 and 2004.
— ArnP Apr 16, 10:43 PM # - I would like to encourage Sen. Reid to endorse and take political action to support Mr. Bill Winter, who is running for Congress in Colorado, against Republican incumbant, Tom Tancredo in Dist. 6.
My time, money and energy are going to the grassroots campaign of a very worthy candidate who can make a real difference right here in my home state. Mr. Winter has fine credentials to represent Colorado in the House. As a ‘common man’, Bill will have a harder time than most running for this seat. It will take everyones’ support to bring this man of integrity and intellect to the House.
Please, Sen. Reid, consider supporting Mr. Bill Winter via your website, blogs and with your supporters. Bill will be a find addition to the House and to being the ‘change’ this country needs.
Thank you,

— Cindy Bond Apr 16, 11:49 PM # - Dear Sir:
I’ve not heard all the commentaries or read all the articles about immigration, but what I have heard and seen has not addressed the root causes of Mexican migration to the U.S.
Fining employers, felonizing migrants and their U.S. allies, building walls, and/or providing guest worker passes, etc. does nothing to address the systemic root cause of migration.
Where is the talk of working with the Mexican government to strengthen their infrastructure and economy? What is the long-term plan?
Sincerely,
I.P. Brinck

Interesting poll today by AOL. McCain beats Mrs. Bill Clinton 73% to 27%.

Poor performance approval ratings for Durban 62%, Kennedy 78%, Mrs. Bill Clinton 51%, Dayton 70%, Levin 63%. Too bad Reid wasn’t a part of the poll. His obstruction and filibustering would probably rate him with a 90% disapproval. The Democrat party is on its death bed.

Reid supports bribe takers like “The Torch” in New Jersey or Dario Herrera here in Nevada. Dario is on trial this week charged with accepting bribes. Another Democrat County Commissioner testified she took $400,000 and she was a small player.
— joro Apr 17, 02:39 AM # - We can’t work with the mexican government to strenghten them…. their politicians and elite familys are just as bad as ours. five percent of the people own eighty percent of everything., just like here. There is a vested interest by both countrys to keep things just the way they are, thank you. profits up, productivity up, wages down.
— Randy Apr 17, 02:40 AM # - I have always been a loyal Democrat however I now find myself at odds with many Democrats, most notably Senator Kennedy, on the immigration or rather, illegal immigration, issue. I recently wrote Senator Kennedy expressing my concerns and received a response outlining the bill that he and Senator McCain sponsered. My response to him was that there was no mention made of penalties and fines on the employers who hire illegals. I am afraid that Senator Kennedy and Senator Reid are in the pocket of business lobbyists like the Chamber of Commerce who are spending millions in support of amnesty for illegals. I find it ironic that anyone calling themselves a Democrat can support business exploiting the poorest members of our society. I say SHAME ON THEM
— Patty Hughes Apr 17, 05:02 AM # - Here’s a solution to the immigration problem. Read it all before you disagree.
Registration without legal repurcussion; give the working immigrants a way to register legally, without reprisals of any sort, as long as they are not criminals and they have jobs and a legitimate address.
They would provide three things in exchange for a secure, numbered photo ID card with their fingerprint on it, and a green card with a time limit.
Those three things they would provide would include an ID of some sort, from their home nation, the address they are permanently living at with any phone and/or email, and THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THEIR EMPLOYER.
Anyone who refuses to register, registers fraudulently, or who can not prove their true identity, anyone who is chronically unemployed, or who has a criminal record, or who is a known member of Sur/Norte, or any other gangs, will simply have to leave the country or officially become a fugitive.
And any employer who has hired these people will only get amnesty for THIER crimes if they immediately bring their workers up to legal standards, which means they fill out W2’s and start paying taxes. AND THEY SHOULD GET AT LEAST THE MINIMUM WAGE!
Any employer who continues hiding employee records would be subject to RETROACTIVE charges if they do not comply.
Any worker who refused to divulge their employer’s name and address will be deported.
Along with this promise of safe and legal residency, illegal immigrants must also accept that they can not all remain here, some of them will have to return to their native lands. But, except in the criminal cases, we could go so far as to let them form their own local committees to help decide who goes and stays, with US hispanic citizens managing the program much the same way they now manage so much of the California welfare system, from within their own ranks.
This internal policing system would help keep our costs down on the enforcement front, and empowers them to do what is right, and not just be the subjects of authority, they are part of that authority.Any one of them who wants to seek US citizenship could do so, by choice, not coersion.
If it seems somehow insurmountable to get all of them registered, just remember there is a federal office with considerable paper-shuffling experience in every zip code in the nation, we call it the U.S. Postal Service. In a cultural emergency like this one, much like we did in WW2, we should use this federal office in a more-versatile way.
If we set a deadline, and gave them a whole summer to sign up, we could actually solve this problem, or at least get it under a semblance of control.
I can’t think of a better way to do this. Any suggestions as to why this would not work? Or are there any better plans?
It is time to stop complaining and start coming up with solutions for fixing some of these problems.
JEP
— John Patterson Apr 17, 09:50 AM # - “Probably the number one misconception about immigration is that it harms our economy. In reality, conservative estimates put the net gain to the U.S. economy from current immigration at about $20 billion.”
http://www.independent.org/newsroom/article.asp?id=1641
It is true that there is a difference between legal and illegal immigrants. However, millions of “illegals” have paid considerable dues in building this country with their hard work (See http://www.rcnphoto.com/images/gal_mpr/15.html) and strong family values. It would cost billions to treat them belatedly as felons. It would cost still more billions in lost economic growth if we deport them.
Sealing the border by itself is not humanely possible.
“Over 2,600 people have died trying to cross from Mexico to the U.S. in the past decade, ten times the number of people who died trying to cross the Berlin Wall during its entire 28-year existence.”
http://www.rcnphoto.com/images/gal_mpr/03.html
The solution must be comprehensive and it should include some form of amnesty and a path to citizenship and Americanization as well as prosperity on both sides of the border. If that means a Marshall Plan for Mexico, then so be it.
Swift boating Harry Reid does not contribute to the solution.
Harry Reid for Majority Leader!
— Leo Brown Apr 17, 10:41 AM # - What a joke! Bush lies his treasonous evil ass off about the reasons to attack Iraq, and Reid BENDS OVER and does virtually NOTHING to lead the minority party in opposition. Gonzales OPENLY AND BLATENTLY lies about his role in getting the CONVICTED DRUNK DRIVER Bush recused from jury duty, and Reid BENDS OVER while a GOD DAMNED LIAR is confirmed to the position of Attorney General. We fry Iraqi women and children in white phosphorous, and Reid is mum. That satanic sick son of a bitch Cheney is flying Muslims around the world torturing them, and Reid is silent. Gay whores in the White House being foisted on us as journalists and being handed classified info??? Doesn’t bother Reid, apparently. Stolen elections??? Unanswered questions about 9/11??? Efforts to censure Bush or filibuster Alito??? ALL IGNORED BY THIS SCHEMING OPPORTUNISTIC SELF SERVING COWARD.
But hey, threaten Reid’s latino constituency, and the MONEY he recieves from the corporate PIMPS that profit from illegal immigration, and voila, he finds his balls.
Hey Reid, look in Robert’s trophy case, THATs where your balls are hanging. Remember Phase Two, you mewling fraud?
— Pissed Off American Apr 17, 11:21 AM # - What country does Harry Reid really represent? Can anyone say with absolute certainty that he represents U.S. interests?
The vast majority of the American public opposes illegal immigration, but Reid wants to surrender to those foreign citizens who are marching in our streets.
Reid is willing to put the interests of foreign citizens ahead of the interests of U.S. citizens.
Harry Reid supports the DREAM Act. That takes college discounts away from U.S. citizens and gives them to illegal aliens. What kind of a U.S. Senator would support giving a benefit to foreign citizens that he took away from U.S. citizens?
Two weeks after Katrina, Harry Reid supported the illegal aliens who went to New Orleans to take reconstruction jobs from U.S. citizens. Did Reid propose a WPA-style program like John Edwards? No, he supported foreign citizens who were taking rebuilding jobs from American hurricane victims.
Consider those points, and then ask yourself what side Harry Reid is really on.
— HarryReidOnImmigration Apr 17, 12:05 PM # - #20…..is answered by Randy correctly in #23.
#25, John Patterson. I think you have some good ideas and some that are much too complicated. The last half of your post sounds as convoluted as our tax code. How can it be simplified, and still be effective?
Don’t ever forget that this issue is to the 2 upcoming elections as gay marriage & abortion were to the last 2 elections…..diversionary and divisive. The majority of Americans were coming together on their distrust of bush/cheney/rumsfeld and their opposition to the Iraq war, so the topic needed to be changed to illegal immigration. I’m not saying that it isn’t an issue, I’m saying it is being used.
Stay focussed and tackle the greater insanity first.
The immigration issue is fixable. Iraq may not be.

“But hey, threaten Reid’s latino constituency, and the MONEY he recieves from the corporate PIMPS that profit from illegal immigration, and voila, he finds his balls.”
Reid stopped the voting on anything related to illegals because the AFL-CIO threatened to drop any support they had of him. This came out last week. It is also why everybody, including Kennedy, blame him for this. Reid’s only telling half the story, and even that is a lie.
— Steve Apr 17, 01:06 PM # - Border security first. It relates to keeping potential terrorists out.
Comparing a wall to keep out illegal aliens to the Berlin Wall is a complete farce. The Communists put the wall up because too many people in East Germany didn’t want to be slaves within East Germany, and going to West Germany (through West Berlin) was their way out. In Israel, the Israeli government put up a wall to keep terrorists from having an unencumbered entrance into Israel in order to blow up civilians, as they did yesterday. The wall here would be to make sure those that want to immigrate to the US, do so in a legal manner. More border security agents, or even using the National Guard of the affected four states could also accomplish this, or some combination.
And because the government of Mexico is made up of cowardly, wimpy, and short-sighted morons, it is high time the US government start billing them for doing nothing to improve the lot of their own people, and making US taxpayers pay for them. The Mexican government can make its first payment in the form of $500 billion of free oil.

In case you hadn’t heard, and apparently you hadn’t, the Mexican government is providing their own people with documentation on how to illegally enter the United States. Not only that, they have frequently saw fit to rebuke our government for even thinking about securing our borders. Since that is the case, who is telling who what to do?
Follow the money? I am. Companies in Mexico are drilling for oil and pulling it out of the ground. Then, they sell it and the Mexican government gets a cut of the proceeds. Since the Mexican government does not see fit to create the type of environment that offers its own people a chance at good paying jobs, but are able to profit from the sale of oil, then they can pay us to do that for them.
And why are you people always thinking the US is always at fault? Between Pissed Off American’s idiotic tirades and you wanting the US to surrender to terrorists and terrorist-sponsoring nations, it’s no wonder the Mexican government thinks it can walk all over us.
— Steve Apr 17, 03:04 PM # - Speaking of terrorists, the cowards of Islamic Jihad and Hamas have demanded Mahmoud Abbas apologize to them for denouncing yesterday’s suicide bombing in Tel Aviv. Islamic Jihad and Hamas are supported primarily by Iran and the other usual suspects.

Here is your initial statement. “The Mexican government can make its first payment in the form of $500 billion of free oil.”
Sounds like an imperial order from emperor stevie to mexico.
steve also says, “Companies in Mexico are drilling for oil and pulling it out of the ground. Then, they sell it and the Mexican government gets a cut of the proceeds. Since the Mexican government does not see fit to create the type of environment that offers its own people a chance at good paying jobs, but are able to profit from the sale of oil, then they can pay us to do that for them.”
You are implying that we, the US, or for that matter the mexican government, wants to better the plight of the mexican people. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Why do you think we have manufacturing plants in mexico? CHEAP LABOR! Why do you think our border is so porous? CHEAP LABOR! We are about as altruistic as a hungry alligator.
Our real motto, and it should be printed on our money….IN GREED WE TRUST!
Hope this pisses you off:
Jugo chavez has the right idea. A national health plan for EVERYBODY in his country, including dental, paid for by oil revenues….and he still helps out poor American senior citizens with their winter fuel bills. His people love him because he takes care of People first. Mexico could do that, but then again, so could the US for it’s own citizens, but you guys don’t like chavez cuz he doesn’t kiss george’s ass! He sees through bush bullshit and cares more for people than for corporations.
And steve, why don’t you ever see that our government IS wrong when it’s wrong? I have never advocated surrender to terrorists, but I have advocated using our head, exhausting ALL efforts at diplomacy as well as forming a REAL coalition before shock and awe. This was not done.
I think we were RIGHT to go into Afghanistan. We should be succeeding in Afghanistan, not failing in Iraq and Afghanistan. And that is totally the fault of demented neo con fervor.
I’ll bet you’d love to shock and awe Iran too, wouldn’t you, emperor steve?
— Poor Daddy Apr 17, 04:47 PM # - Harry you missed your chance you should have shown some balls, Hell yeah I think the ILLEGALS should be treated as felons. They’re criminals.
I’m one Republican that would love to spend some time in the ring with you Harry. Why don’t you show you have some balls and do the right thing, instead of talking about how great you did at boxing.

Here’s the problem. Through its history, the US has had a strong middle class, which has led to fair wage practices and the ability for people to provide for their families. While it is true that it is not as strong as it has been, it is still very influential. Mexico, on the other hand, has done an extremely poor job at trying to develop a viable middle class; the policies of Benito Juarez were a good attempt at it, but he died too early and the Mexican government was then led by dictator Porfirio Diaz, no friend to the common man. And in reality, they’ve still never recovered from that. Vicente Fox was going to try to do this, with encouragement and help from our government, but it didn’t happen and now he has resorted to chastising the US government for wanting to stop Mexicans from crossing the border illegally.
And if you think Hugo Chavez cares about anybody but Hugo Chavez, you haven’t studied dictators enough. He is a lite version Fidel Castro; they are eunuch versions of Al Capone. In Venezuela, he answers to no one, jails dissidents, is embezzling millions, and bribing US officials into buying his heating oil. This is what Saddam Hussein did as well with members of the French and Russian governments during the Oil-for-Food scandal.
“And steve, why don’t you ever see that our government IS wrong when it’s wrong? I have never advocated surrender to terrorists, but I have advocated using our head, exhausting ALL efforts at diplomacy as well as forming a REAL coalition before shock and awe. This was not done.
I think we were RIGHT to go into Afghanistan. We should be succeeding in Afghanistan, not failing in Iraq and Afghanistan. And that is totally the fault of demented neo con fervor. ”
You’re not getting it. The Taliban, Saddam Hussein, and the Iranian mullahs (and Ahmadinejad) were or are paying terrorists to attack our country, Israel, and any other country that gets in their way. They are (or were) paying terrorists to target civilians (note the American tourist from yesterday’s terrorist bombing in Tel Aviv) on purpose. They do this to avoid being directly implicated and blamed. Unfortunately, the wussies at the UN aren’t willing to do anything about it. Yet, the money has been traced back to these governments and George Bush has been willing to call them on it. The bad part is that members of the US government, and a vast majority of the media, would rather take down Bush than deal with a real threat. Diplomacy with the Iranian government is like giving the bomb to Hitler. You may not believe it, but the current Iranian government is made up of real neo-Nazis.
“I’ll bet you’d love to shock and awe Iran too, wouldn’t you, emperor steve?”
Actually, no. There’s enough discontent within Iran from the people (approximately 70% of Iranians hate the mullahs and want them out) that a coordinated effort could bring down the government without too much involvement from the US; a real revolution. In fact, I think Bush’s best course would be to openly support a revolution to overthrow the mullahs and Ahmadinejad. The Iranian government has been openly supporting the destruction of Israel for nearly 30 years; I only believe we need to remove the mullahs and Ahmadinejad.

Much has been said about making ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION a felony. Democrats, who are known to be soft on crime, were in power for 40 years and did not make this serious crime a felony. It is time for Republicans to clean up this mess caused by Democrats.

Listen, asshole, if you are going to quote me, include my posts in their ENTIRETY, instead of picking and choosing the passages that you mistakenly feel flatter the premises of your treasonous drivel.
Heres the part you chose NOT to include in your quote…......
“What a joke! In #30, I told the parts that you got wrong regarding Reid and the immigration bill.
In #33, I referred to the part re-displayed in #40 as an idiotic tirade. Based on how I read this, this is what you believe:
1. Saddam Hussein is a great guy, and should have been left in power to commit mass murder and hire terrorists.
2. Hussein’s sons should still be alive in order to rape and brutalize anybody. And hire terrorists.
3. There are no Islamic terrorists, supported by the Iranian government, that killed 9 civilians (and wounded a teenage American tourist) in Tel Aviv yesterday.
4. There are no Islamic terrorists.
5. Osama bin Laden is also a great guy who commits mass murder.
6. The government of Iran is made up of great guys, despite the fact that gays are executed, dissidents are executed, crimes committed by men can lead to the rape and/or murder of a female relative, hands can be cut if convicted of theft, converting from Islam warrants the death penalty. And hire terrorists.
7. There is no genocide in Sudan, even though the evil Bush administration says there is, and despite the fact that Sudanese, who are Arab and Muslim, are killing other Sudanese, who are black and Muslim (and Christian and animist).
8. All Americans should be killed because the US is a scum country that voted for Bush.
I may not have quoted you, but I think I described you correctly.

But thats what scumsucking Bushlickers do, right?
Instead of countering the TRUTHs I offered…I.E….Bush lied us into a war, Gonzales LIED during his confirmation hearings, we used White Phosphorous, illegally, to FRY women and children in Iraq, Cheney is ordering, condoning, and subsidizing the fucking TORTURE of human beings, that a GAY WHORE and PORNOGRAPHER was given overnight passes to the West Wing and access to classified info….

“Yet…..
you counter with the sort of empty BULLSHIT we have come to expect from you slimey assholes.”
Tell that to the 60 people who were mutilated in Tel Aviv not only by explosives, but by nails so that even more damage could be inflicted on people. Eating at a falafel stand, which of course is just another military target, right? Tell the families of the victims how empty and cheap their lives were anyway, how unimportant they were in just trying to make a living. It was the victims fault for being alive that caused the plight of the Palestinians, whose great leaders have managed to steal from their own people and blamed the Israelis for it. Answer me this: were the victims less human than the terrorists?
By the way, that white phosphorous story has already been proven to be ridiculously false, for quite awhile actually. And I don’t know what the hell your talking about frying women and children. Are you starting your campaign against the soldiers? Are you going to start spitting on them when they come home, and call them baby killers? JUST LIKE YOUR KIND DID WHEN SOLDIERS RETURNED FROM VIETNAM?
I may be a slimy asshole, but at least I’m not a lying, soulless ghoul.

I can’t agree with you on these mexicans in the illegal immigration questions though.
I live in LA. it’s like living in a third world country, All the working class have left LA..
These poor immigrants work for crap, no medical ins, no benefits at all, no time off, no nothing some of them. It’s the fault of the mexicans and their government first, and then the fault lies squarely with these companies that hire the illegals. They beat out the unions and brought in the mexicans…ie they brought out the middle class, and brought in the destitute..
Human nature…it is a terrible thing.
Best thing we could do is make Mexico a state, and straighten their asses out. Make a fine natural resource property, and then we could have no jobs or health care in Mexico.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You might just be incredibly misinformed from wasting too much time at right wing propaganda websites.
— Poor Daddy Apr 19, 02:22 AM # - I’m very concerned about all these people who think this is a black and white issue. “Send them all home” is not a realistic option. I’m not talking about courting the Hispanic/Latino/Chicano vote; I’m talking about not breaking up hard-working, tax-paying families. Sure, there are some undocumented immigrants who do bad things. If an undocumented immigrant commits a crime, he or she should be deported (at the least). But hard-working moms and dads with children who are citizens should not have to be separated from their families. Make these great people a part of our great nation; don’t send them away.
— motherlowman Apr 19, 02:35 AM # - Give ‘em Hell, Harry!
Immigration can’t be solved by waving a magic wand and saying “Illegal Immigrants Begone!” You want all 11 million illegals out of this country? Might as well wish for the moon while you’re at it.
We could double, even triple, the Border Patrol and it wouldn’t be enough. Not to mention that if it’s national security you’re worried about remember that we have the longest undefended border in the world. With Canada. Hell, up until a few years ago some of the checkpoints between the U.S. and Canada weren’t even manned 24 hours a day.
I don’t see people griping about illegal Canadians. Or Romanians, Czechs, Poles, Bulgarians, etc. Why is that? They’re “criminals” too…so why aren’t people jumping up and down demanding something be done about it?
— Trekkie Apr 19, 04:32 AM # - I think the frustrated people on this board are in need of some more facts. First, there are many definitions of “illegal,” some mean “felony” (go to prison if convicted), some are misdemeanors (up to one year in the county jail in the State of Washington where I live), some penalties are fines, and other issues that are contrary to laws are civil issues. People who enter the U.S. illegally or who overstay a visit on a legally obtained visa are both illegal, but it is not a crime. It is a civil issue and the cure is deportation, not jail.
This issue has been created by corporatists who have deliberately chosen NOT to enforce the laws we already have in place, and who have dismantled methods formerly used to identify undocumented workers and the employers who hired them. Now, the sheer numbers of undocumented aliens present a huge financial hurdle if the only “cure” to be applied is deportation. We all need to calm down and realize that the rethuglicans are deliberately attacking all of us with their newest “weapon of mass distraction” in hopes that they can save their sorry asses in Congress so they can continue to protect the criminal cabal in the White House by refusing to exercise their oversight responsibilities.
Those of us who don’t make $200,000 or more per year need to keep our eye on the ball. The rethuglicans in Congress and the White House are on a deliberate mission to create a permanent underclass – to utterly destroy the middle class.
You can see it everyplace you look, including the efforts expended to destroy public education. Wake up. Fighting among ourselves – and undermining the Democrats like Harry Reid (Bless him!) – is EXACTLY what the rethuglicans are praying for. Haven’t you all had enough?
Legislation that fails to severely punish employers who hire undocumented workers is severely flawed. The problem can solve itself if the focus is on heavy fines and jail time for the CEOs and other violating business OWNERS so they become less willing to hire undocumented workers and instead have to pay a living wage to legal immigrants and citizens.
Don’t pick on the immigrants. That just plays into the hands of those pulling the strings – and one of THEM is George W. Bush. He’s been encouraging the illegal immigration ever since he set foot in government and any words from him to the contrary deserve what Harry said earlier this month: “Whatever George Bush says, believe the opposite.”
We need every push-back against this criminal bu$h regime that we can get. And anybody who speaks Spanish, has Latino friends who may not be getting the REAL story . . . please help spread the word to them.
And help get Democrats elected all over the country. Our side needs the subpoena power that comes with being in the majority. It is simple: If you support George Bush, you’re either a millionaire or a fool.
So thank you, Harry!! Keep turning up the heat.

Please do not buy products from these Republican contributors.
The Republican Party appears weak and vulnerable at the cash registers of the companies that give money to the Republican Party.
I have seen that people do not want to call companies and tell them why they boycott companies and ask for a progressive agenda, so then just avoid buying from these companies and spread the word. I will tell the Speaker of the House and the Senate majority leader and the CEOs of these companies listed below that their profits will silently lessen until an agenda listed below gets acceded to by the Republican Party in a press conference and then passed by congress and signed by the pResident. So just do this and I will do the rest of the work for you. You have no petitions to sign, no phone calls to make, just stop buying products from these Republican contributors and to tell others as well to stop. Thank you.
Dell Computers, Walmart, Wendy’s, Outback Steak House, Dominos Pizza, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Eckerd, CVS and Walgreens, Curves for women health clubs, General Electric and Exxon/Mobil.
A progressive agenda for America.
I demand that the Republican Party hold a press conference and accede to these demands. Until such a press conference happens and the legislation and/or actions gets passed I will boycott products from Republican contributors Walmart, Wendy’s, Outback Steak House, Dominos Pizza, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Eckerd, CVS and Walgreens, Curves for women health clubs, General Electric and Exxon/Mobil.
I demand that congress pass legislation ending the war in Iraq and withdraw the troops and arrange with the United Nations to replace US troops with UN troops to defend Iraq until The Iraqi army can defend Iraq.
I demand that the Republican party end their aggressive and hateful action to end a woman’s right to choose abortion or not.
I demand that the Republican party end their aggressive and hateful action to harrass immigrants to this country.
I demand that the Congress of the United states and the president of the United States enact a law to increase the minimum wage to TEN dollars an hour and also to extend unemployment benefits to a year or more for all people whose unemployment benefits expired after 6 months even though they still seek work.
I demand that the Congress of the United States to not privatize social security benefits in any form including taking a percentage of the social security tax and placing it in private accounts. People can already create their own pensions with money after taxes in the private sector.
I demand that the congress make all of a person’s earned income taxable for social security FICA tax purposes and remove the 88,000 dollar taxable income limit. This will make social security solvent for many years to come.
I demand the congress increase the payroll tax in order to make social security solvent as well.
I demand congress and the president enact a prescription drug benefit under Medicare Part B which covers 80 percent of medication cost, with no extra premium, no extra deductibles, no means test and no coverage gaps, and no penalties for signing up in a succeeding year.
I demand congress repeal the faulty Medicare law HR 1 / S 1 passed by congress in Nov 2003.
I demand congress enact single payer universal health insurance for every citizen as minimum coverage.
I demand that congress and the president enact universal vote by mail throughout the 50 states of the United States of America with paper ballots easy to fill out and difficult to change or invalidate by Republican Party officials. This will prevent Republicans from vote suppression by skin color and political party which happened electronically and in person in the 2000 and 2004 elections.
I demand that congress and the president enact that civil servants on every state payroll keep track of voter registrations and vote counting of mail in votes in each precinct and not companies such as Choicepoint. We need to take the Republican Party out of the business of keeping track of voter registration and counting votes.
I demand that congress and the president ban the secretary of state in each of the 50 states from engaging in politics especially acting as a campaign official for a presidential campaign.
I demand congress enact legislation protecting private pensions from corporations deliberately declaring bankruptcy or ending pensions outright.

— Pissed Off Americabn Apr 19, 10:08 AM # - The ONLY way we are going to resolve the question of illegal immigration in this country requires that we:
1) Purge corporatism from our government. This will require that we clean up the election process and election funding, regulate lobbying, discourage outsourcing, and raise the minimum wage.
2) Purge corporatism from our foreign trade policies. This will require dumping NAFTA and CAFTA, and negotiating (and enforcing) trade agreements that protect workers (domestic and foreign), the environment (domestic and foreign), and promote prosperity for all parties.
— Proud American Liberal Apr 19, 10:33 AM # - Give ‘em hell, indeed! Thank you for your forceful and passionate response to the continued mendacity of this Administration and the Rubber-Stamp Republicans!
I think this is the right attitude to take with those who call us unpatriotic—COME SAY IT TO MY FACE!
From now on, when a right-winger calls dissenters “terrorist-sympathizers” or “America-haters”, you call them out and tell them to say it to your face! People like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh attack “the left” or “the liberals” because they know that accusing any particular liberal of hating their country will bring the risk of an ass-whoopin’—and if it doesn’t, it should! I love America at least as much as any fear-mongering right-wing nitwit who thinks he can call half the nation unpatriotic because they want things like checks, balances and oversight from their Congress!
Calling someone unpatriotic—accusing them of hating their country—is one of the worst things you can do. From now on, when our motives are impugned, we should respond forcefully and condemn such tactics.
Keep up the great work! This new attitude of toughness—REAL toughness, born of compassion and strength, not fear and spin—is just what we need to drive the chickenhawks out of office!
— John Olinyk Apr 19, 10:50 AM # - Dear Senator:
The democrats have got to learn to get out ahead with this malarky. One would think that after – what – 12 years of living with these Gingrich-Delay-Rove style wiftboat attacks, your millionaire consultants and PR people would not only understand that this behavior on the part of the Republican Corporate Machine is predictable but should have figured out how it can be prevented and pre-empted.
Regarding immigration. Most immigrants are made of the stuff which made the USA what it once was: immense courage, the capacity for hard work and love of God, family and community. Most have come here because they have lost hope that the potential to create a decent life exists in their home country—this is particularly true in the case of those who come from central America and the Carribean.
I recently read that except for North and South Korea, there is nowhere on Earth where it is possible to find such a long border which demarcates such a disparity in wealth and opportunity as that which exists between the Unites States and Mexico.
I suggest:
1) Enforce all labor laws. Absolutely crack down on businesses who hire undocumented workers at sub-standard wages. They are not only stealing from the American worker, they are also also ripping off local, state and federal treasuries in unpaid witholding taxes.
2) Fix NAFTA. Insist that the Mexican gov create wage and environmental policies that are in line with the North. Give them a schedule which is doable, but do it. Also, insist that Mexico allow non-citizens to purchase homes and businesses there so that non-corporate interests have an opportunity to invest in its economy.
3) Get the workers who are here working hard documented ASAP.
4) Fix the US tax code so that US corporations begin to pay their share.
And PLEASE get organized and start really standing up to the incompetant republican crooks in Washington who are destroying our country.
— Darcy Woodall Apr 19, 11:05 AM # - Everyone who wants to outlaw legal employment and earned citizenship to the undocumented workers need to remember that 12 MILLION people will be forced into the underground economy if that happens. You think they’ll leave? That is as short-sighted as the Iraq invasion. We won’t receive any taxes on their pay, we won’t have a way to ensure public safety and law enforcement, and the resulting “crime wave” will lead to the swamping of an already overpopulated prison system.
Lock the boarder, given those here already a legal status, and quit your bitching. It all comes down you a whole bunch of Americans who just don’t like Mexicans. Say what you like, that’s the root of it.
— Blue Patriot Apr 19, 11:37 AM # - I am not sure where I fall on this issue because I am a die-hard liberal but, it appears, a bit of aconservative on immigration. It seems to me that the flood of immigrants are necessary to keep the cost of food low. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I can’t afford to pay $3 a gallon and $6 a tomato. So it seems immigration is a lose/lose situation. If we kick out the workers, we will end up paying a lot more for food. If we keep the workers, we will end up depressing wages for American workers. Which is worse?
Still this is all secondary to the biggest crime against the American people whish is the outsourcing of our manufacturing (wealth creating) industries to other countries. We are now left with a service economy (wealth transferal) that is creating more debt and less economic security for all of us.
The first Dem to stand up and say that globalization is a loser for the American people gets my vote in 2008.

I will gladly embrace the approximately twelve million so-called “illegal” immigrants working in the U.S., and helping our economy expand, and will gladly keep the immigrants if we can exchange them for at least 12 million resident so-called “legal” Republicans who are currently leaching the life out of our economy.
Perhaps we can start by sending Sen. Frist on a lifetime appointment outside of the United States with “Doctors without Borders” (and in his case, doctors without malpractice insurance too!) and hopefully 11,999,999 more Republicans will follow him out the door.
The so-called illegals benefit us all and toil for a living while Frist and Republicans like him live to make workers pay for failed and corrupt GOP kleptocratic policies.
The GOP is the party of outrageous lies and no amount of blowback against their criminality is unwarranted.

Reid seems to forget that the Congressional Record is on Al Gore’s invention, the Internet, for all to see the partisan, anti-American stunts Reid pulls.
GIVE HARRY HELL
— joro Apr 21, 05:24 PM # - Reid has to be very cautious. He knows that he is next now that Alan Mollohan has been nailed. When will the dirty demmy corruption stop…..........
— Kee Apr 21, 08:41 PM # - Poor Daddy ….....
No, Joro is just a picture perfect example of how fucking despicable our executive administration is. The fact that such raving scumsucking asses are employed in the defense of these bastards underscores the true nature of the beast. Thank God for the Joros, for they remind us daily of the evil we face.
— Pissed Off American Apr 21, 11:15 PM # - I am of neither party. I am neither Republican nor Democrat. However, I have read many comments by long-time Republicans on Bill Frist’s blog, who are infuriated by the Republican party’s failure to obey the will of their Republican base who want all illegal aliens deported and anchor babies stripped of their phony, so-called “U.S. citizenship” and want a wall all along the border and who want all employers who hire illegal aliens heavily fined and jailed. These enraged Republicans state that they are either going to vote for the Democrats just to spite the Republican party traitors in the Senate, or else will vote AGAINST Republican candidates on purpose, or will join a third party like the Constitution party, or will stay home on election day in November and will not vote or will do their best to vote out of office all Republicans in the Senate that they can. Many have said that Bill Frist can forget about being president and ditto for John McCain also.
These are lifelong Republicans who uttered these comments. One guy had been a Republican for about 50 years and had just re-registered as a member of the Libertarian party because he and his wife were so infuriated by the Republican politicians betrayal of their Republican voters.
The Democrats might have a good chance in November if they play this right. Some soon-to-be-former Republicans said it would serve the GOP right if the Democrats regained control of Congress again and that it would teach those idiots in the GOP, especially Bill Frist who, in the opinion of many infuriated Republican voters, turned traitor and betrayed them.
I wish you had seen the rage and fury and ranting by betrayed constituents. It was a sight to read and see.
— Jean Garcia Apr 23, 02:03 AM # - PS: If the Democrats torpedo any immigration bill right now in the Senate, you just might have some grateful former Republicans who then might vote for the Democrats just to spite the Republican politicians who betrayed them. These infuriated Republicans, some of them, said on Bill Frist’s blog for Bill Frist to stop blaming Harry Reid and the Democrats for the failure of amnesty bills for illegal aliens in the Senate and that they are very grateful to Harry Reid and the Democrats for doing them a BIG favor by killing the amnesty bills in the Senate. If the Democrats can tap into this gratitude and kill all amnesty bills in the Senate, and make it look like it was the fault of the Republican senators, then the infuriated Republican voters might decide to go ahead and vote for the Democrats just to spite the GOP traitors or else might just stay home on election day while Democrat voters get to vote and win because no Republican voters will be voting.
Harry Reid, you want to win, pay heed to what I just wrote in this comment and the preceding comment, #74.
